My Favorite Activities

My favorite activity right now is reading. I just finished reading The Lightning Thief, which made me feel really good about reading and makes me feel like I read really fast. I think it’s fun reading {if you don’t, this might interest you. You should read; I’m not forcing you.}

But when it’s warm outside, I like riding my bike and all the things in the summer like swimming in the pool, boating, playing baseball, basketball, and playing with my cousins and family.

I guess since it’s still winter I’ll just go read a new book.

The Lightning Thief

I just finished reading the Lightening Thief.  Before I started reading it I felt really overwhelmed that it was such a big book. But now that I’m finished with it, I feel so happy and proud that I accomplished just a big reading…and LOVED it!

I really enjoyed this book and now wish it was longer so that I could learn even more about the story and the characters. I enjoyed all of the main characters (Percy, Grover, and Anna Beth) but my favorite character was Percy, the half-blood teenager. “Half-blood” means that he is half human, half god (not the real God, but like the Greek and Roman gods).  In fact, the book is based quite a bit on mythology, which was fun to read about.

My favorite part of the book was when Percy went up to Olympus.  This part was full of action since his task was to return the lightning bolt to Zeus.  On his quest (after his mom was taken and put into grave danger), he was exhausted by fighting lots of monsters! Some of those parts were pretty scary and I don’t recommend reading them right before bed.  I won’t give away the ending, but I will say that it’s definitely a book worth reading! I can’t wait to read the rest in this series.

Boating with my Family

We have a huge lake in our backyard and we love to go boating. My cousins have a Sea-Ray, which is a really fast boat. One day, I was the captain because Dad let me drive. In front of me was a wavy, rippled lake that stretched on for miles. I could hear other boat engines as they came by and I could hear my family talking as I drove. As I drove, big waves splashed on us and all over my Uncle Nathan – the water was surprisingly chilly, but the warm sun that beat down on our skin made that feel refreshing. I had a blast driving the boat all around the lake, and almost as much fun when we stopped so we could all jump in to swim. My cousin Megan jumped in first and I was soon after her.  I was a little nervous about the animals that would be swimming around me that I couldn’t see, but then I put on my goggles and dipped my head under water and saw that it was only little plants growing up from the bottom of the lake.  As I type this and watch the snow coming down outside of my window, I long to be on the lake boating again with my family.  Summer can’t get here fast enough!
